It's strange to me that socialists and proponents for more government have little trust for their fellow man yet trust the government to always do right explicitly.
If I had to choose between dealing with an untrustworthy government or an untrustworthy neighbor I would choose the neighbor.
Why?
Governments tend to hold monopolies on the usage of force.
THIS by itself is sufficient reason to limit the power of the government.
